Since 1991, Main Street Ministries, Inc. (MSM) has been bringing hope and help to families and individuals. Located on the corner of Main and D Streets in Hillsboro, the mission of MSM is to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ by providing physical and spiritual resources in a supportive environment. In addition, MSM operates a Food Bank Saturday mornings that is available to anyone in need.
Currently MSM provides housing, accountability, Bible studies, life skills workshops, and a safe, supportive environment for women (referred to as Sojourners) and their children ages newborn to 12 years. MSM’s one-year transformation program provides a place to practice honesty, forgiveness and responsibility, where women are respected, God hears prayers and gives direction for the future.
MSM is led by a volunteer board including the Executive Board of Directors: Dale Nuss, President/Chairman; Clint Seibel, Vice President; Mary Steketee, Treasurer; and Lola Unruh, Secretary. Additional Board Members are Ken Koslowsky, Deanne Duerksen, Roger Hofer, Debbie Penn, Rose Vinduska, and April Neufeldt.
Staff includes Karen Sites, Director and Ciara Cox, Food Bank Manager. The ministry operates with the participation of a huge list of volunteers performing a variety of tasks that include lawn maintenance, building maintenance, childcare, providing life skills education, Bible studies, Food Bank workers, etc.
Current projects include 1) converting two small apartments into a larger apartment to better serve the needs of future Sojourners; and 2) repurposing part of the 3rd floor space (Upper Room) into an exercise/sewing/craft area and organizing the children’s ministry area. Some donations have been received for the Upper Room project but more is welcomed as the goal has not been reached.
Main Street Ministries, Inc. is a 501c(3) Kansas non-profit corporation and is supported by contributions from local area churches, individuals, and a small grant. All of the contributions received, whether it is one-time or monthly financial support, food, furniture, household items, or personal care items for the Sojourners, are always needed, and very much appreciated!
